Series leader Maxime Renaux of the Monster Energy Yamaha team will without doubt be looking for a chance to extend his lead as he has one eye on the MXGP class in 2022. A rough sand of Sardinia might just work in his favour as the teenager was impressive in the Belgian international a few weeks ago on the same type of circuit. In the MX2 class all eyes will be on MX2 rookie Liam Everts as he tried to duplicate his father and grandfather in the step to the Grand Prix level. No doubt the likes of Jeffrey Herlings, Antonio Cairoli, Jorge Prado and Romain Febvre will all be looking for blood and a chance to pull back that large points lead of the defending champion. Of course with the injury to series leader Tim Gajser in the MXGP class anything is possible, although it seems Gajser is in pain, but felt comfortable in his practice run yesterday.
